INFORMAL SLEEPS: HARD ROCK, RIVIERA MAYA

By far one of the best hotels/resorts I've ever stayed at was the Hard Rock Hotel in the Riviera Maya, Mexico. Although it's a tad more expensive than your average resort down south, the price is worth it and you will see why.

Once we exited the Cancun airport, we had an airport shuttle waiting to take us and several other travellers to their designated resorts. Although the ride was a little long (35 minutes), it was worth it because our driver was kind enough to explain where we were, what to do and see in the Riviera Maya & Cancun areas.

What appealed to us about the Hard Rock Hotel was that it was seperated in two "mini resorts" - one for families and one for adults only but you could cross over into either area and enjoy the restaurants, pools and beaches. We opted for the "family side" since it was on the bigger side, we really had no problem crossing over when we wanted some tranquility.

The Resort

From the photos alone, you can tell this resort was massive and quite modern. It had a total of 6 bars and lounges to choose from, all of which where never overly crowded.

Restaurants

There's a total of 12 restaurants at the resort that vary from Buffet style to Elegant Asian cuisine. My favourite had to be Frida (pictured above), a true Mexican restaurant with dozens of traditional dishes.

Pools

You have 7 pools and beaches to choose from, including an adults on pool. That's the one we spent most of our time at. Less screaming children, more peace and quite. My favourite part of their beaches were the cabana beds sprawled amongst the resort, even some over water. I could sit there all day. The only complaint I had was that there wasn't enough actual beach. You see, the resort is surrounded by rock which prevents a real beach from forming, so instead they have man made "beach" areas that are enclosed with the surrounding rock.

Rooms

Rooms were out of this world, let me tell you. Not only was the room service INCLUDED in our package (3AM dessert was the bomb), we also had a fully stocked bar included that was REFILLED every single day. Cleaning was an every day thing as well, we never had to worry about our belongings being stolen. Now for the best part... upstairs, we had our very own rooftop terrace, lounging chairs, a bathroom and a huge hotub. We were beyond spoiled.

It was truly a luxurious experience. We were never bored at the Hard Rock, whether we were dining at one of their high end restaurants, wandering the hotel, spending some time at the gym or lounging at the beach with few pina coladas in hand, we had it all. Not to mention, they have lots of entertainment at night by the adults only pool, including interactive activities where you can meet lots of new people and have fun at the same time.

Would we go back? Absolutely.
