INFORMAL PLAY: SEA HORSE RANCH

Known for it's hospitable people and warm weather, the Dominican Republic is filled with all sorts of activities, food, culture and history. The Sea Horse Ranch is a prime example of some of the finer experiences the island has to offer.

About the Seahorse Ranch

Built in the early 1990's, the Sea Horse Ranch a luxury gated community nestled in between Sosua and Cabarete. It's home to some of the wealthier people in the Dominican Republic and international clientèle alike because of the security, comfort and luxury it offers. Not only do they have massive real estate options available for sale and/or rent, they have the world class Beach Club restaurant, a full equestrian centre, tennis courts and seaside pools.

Our Experience

Our only wish would have been for more sunshine! We were excited to experience quality horse back riding at the Sea Horse Ranch's equestrian center rain or shine. Before you even arrive at the resort you know you're already close when you see the giant Sea Horse in the front lawn, talk about making a statement. Staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our entire visit, either when asking which way we could find the Equestrian Center or how our guide took us on this wonderful journey.

You have two choices when it comes to horseback riding, either 1.5 hour or 3 hour trek, we opted for the 1.5 with two beautiful hazel coloured horses with majestic hair and tails. We must note that this is a full equestrian center and sanctuary for horses with large open grazing grounds, state of the art stables, amazing caregivers and controlled breading.

Throughout our little journey, we were taken through the grounds of the Sea Horse Ranch, inside the tropical forest, through private trails, serene meadows and of course, on the beach. The views of the beach were something we were not prepared for. Empty beaches and endless seas of blue over the horizon is the best way we can explain it. The photos really do speak for themselves;

After our ride, we were both thirsty and starving so the obvious choice was to experience the world renowned Beach Club Restaurant. We decide we would walk to the restaurant which was located at the end of the resort and take in the remaining grounds. We couldn't believe the size of the villas we were looking at, no wonder the elite choose the Sea Horse Ranch for their extended stays.

If you're in the market for a luxury vacation villa in the Dominican Republic, the Sea Horse Ranch should be on your list. There's a wide variety of sizes and of course, prices but with everything you need within the walls of the gated community there's really no reason to leave.

After about twenty minutes of walking, we reached the Beach Club. It's perfectly located on a cliff overlooking the beach, giving you a panoramic view of the ocean. With floor to ceiling windows and white contemporary decor, you feel like you're on cloud 9.

The drinks were some of the best we've had during our staying in the Dominican Republic. If you're a fan of Mojitos like Mike is, be sure to try this one but request a splash of passion fruit with it, we promise you'll love it. As most of you know, I've been on the search for the perfect Sangria through out my travels and I'm not just saying this, the Beach Club is by far my favourite.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Sea Horse Ranch, it's the perfect day trip for couples, families and friends. Spend the day riding bewildering horses, experiencing their beauty and strength followed by lunch or dinner at the spectacular Beach Club.
