When it comes to timeless beauty and effortless grace, Academy Award winner Charlize Theron is at the top of Hollywood’s list. The forty-year-old actress who was born in South Africa had a far from charmed life before fame. Her mother shot and killed her abusive father, Charles Theron, who she is named after, out of self-defence in 1991 when he attacked both of them.

That was the year her mother entered her into a modelling competition, which she won. This gave her the opportunity to travel around Italy, starting her career as a model. She later moved to New York City for a modelling job and decided to stay to pursue a ballet career.

Sadly a knee injury ended her days of dancing. In 1994, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting and she has not looked back since.

Theron is widely successful, as previously mentioned, she is an Academy Award winner. She received this award for her ground-breaking performance in the film Monster in 2003. This gave her the title as one of Hollywood’s highest paid actresses with a net worth of approximately 110 million dollars. She is definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Theron has used her fame and fortune as a platform to stand up for issues she believes in. Charlize Theron is the founder of the CTAOP, which stands for Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Program. This program was designed in 2007 and it invests in African youth in an attempt to keep them safe from HIV/AIDS. Theron has also invested a lot of herself into Animal rights. She has devoted a lot of time and funds into being a voice for those who do not have one. She even has two rescue dogs of her own.

Clearly, Charlize Theron has more than her incredibly good looks getting her through life. She is a strong, intelligent, independent woman, a real role model for women around the world. Which is exactly why we at Chrome included her on this list.
